A step towards sustainability: The Farm Ponds project commences

We are excited to provide an update on our Farm Ponds project; a significant initiative focused on water conservation and sustainable agriculture. As a pilot project, we are on track to construct 25-30 Farm ponds in the coming weeks, just in time for the monsoon season.

The Farm Ponds serve as vital tools for rainwater preservation, addressing the challenges of saline water, and facilitating irrigation for Rabi crops. Each pond can conserve an impressive 7-8 lakh litres of water, paving the way for a sustainable farming future in the region.

This remarkable project would not have been possible without the invaluable support of two key organisations: the Deshpande Foundation (DF) and Caring Friends Mumbai (CF). DF has provided us with satellite imaging technology, enabling us to identify optimal locations for each pond and maximise our water conservation efforts. Additionally, they have extended their support towards machine engage costs. We are also grateful to Caring friends for their generous contribution of diesel, ensuring seamless on-site operations.

We sincerely thank the local farmers actively participating in this endeavour. Their cost contributions have been instrumental, from soil transportation to providing inlet and outlet pipes and stone pitching. Their unwavering commitment and support serve as a shining example of the power of community engagement and teamwork.

As we move forward, we remain dedicated to realising our vision of a more sustainable and prosperous future for agriculture in the region. Stay tuned for further updates on the Farm Ponds project and its positive impact on the local farming community.
